After the Chicago Cubs dropped two of their first three games of the 2014 season, the Cubs will kick-off the party on Friday that is Wrigley Field’s 1ooth year in existence.
For the first time this season, the Cubs will be playing at Wrigley Field on Friday as the team starts a three-game series with the Philadelphia Phillies.
The Phillies are coming from a series against the Texas Rangers in which they won only one game of three.
Cubs starting pitcher Travis Wood will be making his first start of the season for the Cubs on Friday. Wood may have been the most effective starting pitcher for the Cubs last season. Wood posted a record of 9-12 last season to go along with an ERA of 3.11 and a FIP of 3.89.
Wood made one start against the Phillies last season. In that start, Wood allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk while pitching 6 2/3 innings.
Taking the mound for the Phillies is starting pitcher Roberto Hernandez, formerly of the name Fausto Carmona. With the Tampa Bay Rays last season, Hernandez posted a record of 6-13 while starting in 24 of his 32 appearances. Hernandez had an ERA of 4.89 last season to go along with a FIP of 4.63.
The wind will be blowing out towards right field during today’s game and that might signal good fortunes for Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.
