Cubs Roster Moves: Donnie Murphy Claimed By Texas Rangers

The Chicago Cubs are in the final stages of finalizing their roster.

With Mike Olt inching closer to being the starting third baseman for the Cubs, Donnie Murphy was beginning to look like the odd man out when it came to finalizing the team’s 25-man roster.

On Wednesday, Murphy was indeed deemed the odd-man out as he was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers. The Rangers have yet to officially announce the move as they need to make a corresponding roster move to make room for Murphy.

Murphy hit .255/.319/.530 with the Cubs last season to go along with a wOBA of .366 and a wRC+ of 130. Murphy also added 11 home runs and 23 RBIs for the Cubs last season.

With Murphy no longer a part of the Cubs roster picture, Olt appears to be on the verge of being named the starting third baseman for the Cubs.
