Linebacker DJ Williams has signed a one year contract to stay in Chicago. The 11-year veteran hopes to help a defense that was one of the franchise’s worst in history.
Williams came over from Denver last season to replace Brian Urlacher, but injuries destroyed his season. He suffered a calf strain that kept him from working during the preseason. He then suffered a pectoral tear that ended his season in Week 6.
Williams is projected to be a “bridge”-type player. That means he is a stop-gap at middle linebacker until the team gets a long-term answer.
Emery has said he loves Williams’ leadership and football instincts. Hopefully he gets a better chance to showcase his skills than he had last season.
