NBA Trade Rumors: Chicago Bulls And New York Knicks Talking Carmelo Anthony Trade

The NBA trade deadline is nine days away and the Chicago Bulls are expected to be one of the more active teams in the NBA.

In recent weeks, teams have expressed interest in various Bulls players. Guards Kirk Hinrich and Mike Dunleavy have generated the most interest while interest in forward Taj Gibson has increased of late.

Most of the rumors that the Bulls have been connected to have given off an impression that the team is looking towards the future as opposed to winning this season.

That can not necessarily be said for the rumor that surfaced on Monday.

According to hoops nation, the Bulls and Knicks have been in regular contact over recent weeks about a trade that would send All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony to Chicago.

The report states that the current deal being discussed between the two teams is one that would send Hinrich, Carlos Boozer, Tony Snell, Jimmy Butler, and a presumed first round draft pick to the Knicks for Anthony, Raymond Felton, and Iman Shumpert. The report goes on to read that nothing is imminent yet between the two teams.

If this deal is indeed on the table, the Bulls should finalize it in a heartbeat.

While Anthony remains a questionable fit for the Bulls, this deal is too good to pass up.

Look at what the Bulls would be giving up in this trade. Boozer will undoubtedly be amnestied at the end of the season. While Hinrich has been a valuable player to the Bulls in the past two seasons, injuries have limited much of what he has been able to do with the team. Despite showing some progress this season, doubt has emerged over how productive Butler will be in the NBA. Snell has shown promise in his rookie season but is not at the point in which he is an established member of the Bulls roster. As for the first round pick; the Bulls likely will obtain the rights to the Charlotte Bobcats first round draft pick this summer.

Meaning every asset of the Bulls package for Anthony proves to be expendable.

The addition of Anthony, who is one of the top scorers in the NBA this season by averaging 27.1 points per game, will renew the Bulls playoff efforts this season while also taking the spotlight away from Derrick Rose for the long-term future. Nothing against Rose, but at this point, the Bulls need to make Rose a sidekick and acquire a new superstar. Anthony would be that superstar.

The Bulls will be active in the next 9 days, the question is will their activity change the landscape of the NBA’s eastern conference?
