We have once again reached the point in the Derrick Rose rehabilitation process where Rose is seen on video participating in basketball-related activity.
In a video taken by the Chicago Sun Times on Wednesday, Rose is seen gingerly shooting three-pointers while barely leaving the ground to shoot.
Clearly, this is just the beginning step for Rose as he begins to rehab from the torn meniscus injury he suffered earlier in the season. The chances of Rose returning this season are still slim to none but it’s an encouraging sign to see Rose back on a basketball court.
While this will be the first of many videos to be released of Rose rehabbing, the Bulls point guard remains sheltered from media. Rose has started traveling with the Bulls recently but has been labeled as off limits to reporters. There shouldn’t be any issue taken with that stance though Rose will eventually need to start talking to the media.
The Bulls should follow the blueprint of the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant. Bryant is currently dealing with a knee injury that may sideline him for the rest of the season. Bryant has been traveling with the Lakers and the team has made him available to the media on various occasions.
Rose does not need to be available to reporters on a daily basis. But if the injured point guard is going to be traveling with the team, then the Bulls should make him available to the media from time to time.
For now, we must settle for videos of Rose cautiously shooting jump shots.
