The Chicago Bears season ended on Sunday but the sting from their 33-28 loss to the Green Bay Packers will likely last for at least several more days. Beyond ending their season, the Bears loss to the Packers on Sunday also secured the team’s draft slot in the upcoming 2014 NFL Draft.
The Chicago Bears will have the 14th overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
There is some question as to what position the Bears will draft with the 14th overall pick. The Bears targeted position with their first round pick likely will not be known until the team determines what free agents to bring back.
It is possible that the Bears could look to draft quarterback in the first round. Under that scenario, the team would have let starting quarterback Jay Cutler become a free agent. However, that is a scenario that is highly unlikely.
The early expectation here is that the Bears will utilize their 14th overall selection on the defensive side of the ball. More specifically, on the defensive line. The defensive line was one of the more disappointing units of the season for the Bears. With Henry Melton becoming a free agent while attempting to come back from a torn ACL injury and the increasing chances that Julius Peppers will be released, it goes without saying that the Bears need to revamp their defensive line.
The 2014 NFL Draft will be held May 8-10.
