Luol Deng sat out on Saturday night against the Detroit Pistons due to an achilles injury that he suffered against the Miami Heat on Thursday night. Deng underwent an MRI that would come back negative for the Chicago Bulls‘ small forward.
Nick Friedell of ESPN reports that Deng will try to play on Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, but it is going to depend on how that achilles responds to treatments on Sunday and Monday.
“I want to get back as soon as I can. … “We’re going to treat it these next two days. My mindset is to be ready for the next game. If I feel like I can run out there I’ll play. I don’t know about the minutes, I don’t know how much I’ll play, but where it’s good enough and comfortable enough to be effective out there.” – Luol Deng, sbnation.com
With this Bulls team battling multiple injuries, they cannot afford to be without Deng for a long time. Obviously you don’t want Deng to come back too soon and risk hurting it even worse, but for the sake of your season, he needs to be back as soon as possible. Jimmy Butler is still week-to-week according to the Chicago Bulls’ official website and Mike James is day-to-day.
Right now it appears there is no official timetable for Deng’s return.
