Chicago Blackhawks Outlast Buffalo Sabres 2-1

The Buffalo Sabres entered Saturday night’s game with an NHL-low one point after five games and left in the same position following a 2-1 Chicago Blackhawks victory at the United Center.

The Sabres’ lone point came in their home opener with an overtime loss.

Ben Smith (1G, 1A) and Buffalo native Patrick Kane (4G, 1A) scored a power play goal for the Hawks. Drew Stafford (1G, 0A) tallied the Sabres goal.

Brent Seabrook (1G, 2A) sent a rising wrister from the blue line, and Smith tipped in his first goal of the season with 10:34 left in the first for a 1-0 Blackhawks lead.

Kane scorched a pass from Patrick Sharp (0G, 3A) in the final minute of the second pass goaltender Ryan Miller for a 2-0 Hawks lead.

Hawks goaltender Corey Crawford made 28 stops in his second win of the season, following a night off.

Brandon Pirri, who was recalled from Rockford of the American Hockey League late Friday night, was in the Hawks’ lineup for veteran Michal Handzus (rest).

Hawks defensemen Michael Kostka and Michal Rozsival were also healthy scratches.

Veteran winger Patrick Sharp appeared in his 600th NHL career game for the Hawks, while waiting on the birth of his child.

The Hawks will travel to face the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. CT (CSN-CH, WGN Radio).
