The Mesa Solar Sox have begun play in the Arizona Fall League and many talented Cub prospects highlight the roster. Albert Almora, Kris Bryant, and Jorge Soler are the three major prospects that are participating in the action down in Arizona.
Play just began this week and the Solar Sox are already off and running. They’ve scored 21 runs in the two games they have played, they are 2-0.
Their first victory of the year came on Wednesday against the Glendale Desert Dogs. It was an absolute blowout as the Solar Sox defeated the Desert Dogs 13-3. Sammy Solis got his first win after pitching three and two thirds innings. Alberta Almora led the charge for the offense, Almora was red hot on Wednesday as he went 4/5, scored three runs, had a double, a home run, and three RBI’s in the game. Jorge Soler and Kris Bryant also had three RBI’s a piece.. Wes Darvill hit a pinch hit two run home run to add to the Solar Sox’s lead. Every player that played in the game on Wednesday recorded a hit.
On Thursday, the Solar Sox defeated the Salt River Rafters, 8-1. Matt Purke was the winning pitcher for the Solar Sox, he went three innings and gave up one run. Albert Almora led the charge again as he went 2/5 with two runs scored, a triple, and three RBI’s. Kris Bryant and Jorge Soler were both absent from the lineup on Thursday. Taylor Lindsey had two hits in four trips and drove in two runs. Brian Goodwin also had two RBI’s in the game.
The Solar Sox will be in action again tonight. They will be taking on the Surprise Saguaros. Scheduled start time is 7:35 CDT.
