The White Sox will not have a 100 loss season.
Home runs by Marcus Semien, Jordan Danks, Adam Dunn, and Conor Gillaspie lifted the Sox to a 6-5 win over the Royals on Saturday night at U.S. Cellular Field.
The Sox took a 2-0 lead in the second off Royals starter Yordano Ventura (0-1, 3.52 ERA) with back-to-back homers by Semien and Jordan Danks.
Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn added a two-run homer – his 34th of the season – in the third to push the Sox lead to 4-0.
Ventura was chased after he gave up four earned runs on six hits over four innings. He walked one and struck out two.
Mike Moustakas hit a solo homer in the fifth and the Royals chased Sox starter Erik Johnson (3-2, 3.25 ERA) in the sixth when Billy Butler hit a two-run homer to cut the Sox lead 4-3.
With runners on first and second, Sox relievers Charlie Leesman and Daniel Webb struck out Dave Lough and Alcides Escobar, respectively to end the sixth.
Johnson went 5 1/3 innings, gave up five hits and three earned runs, struck out four and walked three.
Sox third baseman Conor Gillaspie hit his 13th homer, a two-run shot in the seventh off Royals reliever Tim Collins to put the Sox ahead 6-3.
The Royals pulled to within 6-5 in the eighth, when Salvador Perez hit a two-run shot off Sox reliever Matt Lindstrom.
Sox left-hander Jose Quintana (9-6, 3.45 ERA) and Royals left-hander Bruce Chen (8-4, 3.38 ERA) are the starters for the season finale in Chicago on Sunday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. (WGN/WSCR 670).
