Chicago Blackhawks Top Washington Capitals 4-3 in Exhibition Finale

Nikolai Khabibulin started in net for the Blackhawks in the final exhibition game as Hawks skated to 4-3 victory over the Capitals in overtime.

Corey Crawford had been scheduled to start and participated in the morning skate, but sat out for “lower body stiffness.”

Antti Raanta was recalled from Rockford of the AHL to serve as Khabibulin’s backup and Andrew Shaw scored the game-winner for the Hawks.

In regulation, defenseman Nick Leddy scored two goals and had an assist, Jimmy Hayes scored, and Patrick Sharp added two assists.

Mikhail Grabovski had a goal and an assist and Marcus Johansson also scored for the Capitals.

Khabibulin earned the win while Capitals goalie Braden Holtby recorded the loss.

The Hawks conclude their exhibition season with a 5-0-2 record and will now put their sight on the regular-season.

The Hawks will hold a red-carpet event on Madison Street in front of the United Center prior to Tuesday’s opener from 4:30 – 5 p.m. The sqaud will arrive in front of Gate 3 and will be introduced before walking a red carpet and into the United Center.

A pre-game banner raising ceremony is also scheduled before the Hawks drop the puck on the 2013-14 regular-season against the Capitals at 7:00 p.m. CT (NBCSN/WGN 720).
