Chicago White Sox Fall 3-2 on Bryan Anderson's Throwing Error

White Sox catcher Bryan Anderson‘s throwing error in the seventh gave the Royals a 3-2 victory over the White Sox on Thursday night at U.S. Cellular Field.

Sox veteran first baseman Paul Konerko hit off the final series of the season with his 12th home run in his first at-bat against the Royals.

Konerko, who has not announced whether this series will also be the last of his career, gave the Sox a 1-0 lead in the second with his homer to left field.

David Lough hit a two-run homer in the fourth to right field off Sox starter Andre Rienzo (2-3, 4.82 ERA) for a 2-1 Royals lead.

Adam Dunn added a 442 feet solo shot off Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie (15-12, 4.04 ERA) to right field in the sixth to make it 2-2.

Jason Maxwell regained the Royals’ lead in the seventh, when he scored from third off Sox catcher Bryan Anderson’s throwing error to first base on a George Kottaras bunt single.

Rienzo went six innings, allowed four hits and two earned runs, struck out four and walked one.

Guthrie gave up two earned runs on four hits over seven innings, and also struck out four and walked one.

The Sox concluded their road season Wednesday night with a 7-2 loss to the Indians, a franchise-record 55th road loss of the season. They must win one game against the Royals to avoid 100 losses for the season.

Sox left-hander Chris Sale (11-13, 2.97 ERA) and Royals right-hander James Shields are the starters for Hispanic Heritage Night on Friday in Chicago at 7:10 p.m. CT (CSN+/WSCR 670).
