Chicago Blackhawks Fall to Pittsburgh Penguins 3-2 in Shootout

James Neal and Sidney Crosby scored in the shootout for the Penguins to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 loss Monday night at the Consol Energy Center.

Bryan Bickell had both goals for the Hawks in regulation and Kris Letang had the Penguins’ tallies. Bickell’s goals came on special teams, one when the Hawks were short-handed and the other coming on a 5-4 man advantage. The power-play goal was the Hawks’ first in 22 tries of the exhibition season.

Penguins net-minder Jeff Zatkoff earned the win while Nikolai Khabibulin took the loss for the Hawks.

Prior to Monday’s game, the Hawks sent seven prospects to AHL affiliate Rockford. Forwards Mark McNeill, Garret Ross and Alex Broadhurst, defenseman Dylan Olsen, Klas Dahlbeck and Adam Clendening and goaltender Kent Simpson.

Also, the Hawks assigned forward Teuvo Teravainen to Jokerit SM-liiga in Finald and forward Ryan Hartman to the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League.

Defenseman Viktor Svedberg will sign with Rockford for the 2013-14 season.

Currently, the Hawks’ roster includes 23 forwards, 10 defenseman, and three goaltenders.
