The start of the college football season is officially upon us.
For the Northwestern Wildcats, the team opens up the season in California against the Golden Bears.
The Wildcats are striving to be Big Ten champions this season and their game against California on Saturday appears to be a cakewalk when compared to their games on the schedule against Ohio State and Wisconsin.
The Wildcats should face no resistance on offense. The dynamic combination of quarterback Kain Colter and running back Venric Mark should cause fits for the Golden Bears 4-3 defense.
The Golden Bears are a better run defense than they are a passing defense, and that could impact what the Wildcats do offensively. That being said, Mark will be an impact player in tonight’s game. The mere fact that Mark is in the backfield for the Wildcats instantly improves the passing game for Northwestern.
Line play will be important as well. For Northwestern, the team’s offensive and defensive line have been two question marks. On Defense, Northwestern will be facing a true freshman quarterback in Jared Goff. The key for the Wildcats defense is to generate pressure on Goff and force the quarterback into making mistakes.
With a new coaching staff and quarterback in place, Cal is hoping to have a better season than their 3-win season in 2012.
The Wildcats are the better team and should come away with the victory on Saturday.
