Northwestern hoops planning 2014 United Center game

Northwestern head basketball coach Chris Collins once was a Chicago Bulls ball boy and is looking to return “Chicago’s Big Ten team”, Northwestern to the United Center in 2014 the Tribune reported.

While NU has played at the United Center in the past for the Big Ten conference tournament they have never held a home game at the venue.

NU officials are in talks with high-profile schools to host a game at the United Center next season to draw attention for the hoops program similar to the Wrigley Field games in 2010. NU’s baseball team defeated Michigan in April and NU’s football team fell to Illinois in November.

Potential opponents for the Wildcats include Indiana, state-rival Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, and Kansas or Kansas State, who are coached by former Illinois coaches Bill Self and Bruce Weber respectively.
