Major League Soccer announced on Sunday that Fire forward and Chicago-native Mike Magee has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star Fan XI. Unlike the other major sports leagues (NHL, NFL, MLB, NBA) in North America the MLS All-Stars do not play against each other, they will play Italian Serie A club AS Roma. The All-Star clash will be held at Sporting Park in Kansas City on Wednesday, July 31 at 8:00 p.m. CT (ESPN2/UniMas).
This is Magee’s first All-Star selection in his 11-year MLS career, which includes two MLS Cup championships with the Los Angeles Galaxy.
Since joining the Fire on May 25 this year he has been named the MLS Player of the Month in June after recording seven goals in his seven matches across all competitions. His scoring prowess led the Fire to a 4-0-1 record during June and tied him for the MLS Golden Boot award with 11 goals during the season. Magee previously was named the Player of the Month in March with Los Angeles.
Magee is joined by goalkeeper Raul Fernandez (FC Dallas), defenders Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City), Aurélien Collin (Sporting Kansas City), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy), midfielders Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo), Will Johnson (Portland Timbers), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City), and forwards Thierry Henry (New York Red Bulls), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes), AT&T ‘In the Game’ forward (TBA – July 11).
The Fan XI was voted on by fans on MLSsoccer.com, text messaging, and Twitter. The remaining forward selection will be determined on July 11, as part of the AT&T MLS All-Star ‘In the Game’ Challenge.
