Only six days removed from hoisting the Stanley Cup and two days from a parade through the City of Chicago, the Blackhawks will begin phase one in the restructuring process for the 2013-2014 season at the 2013 NHL Draft on Sunday. The short turnaround from the playoffs to the NHL Draft is attributed to this year’s lockout.
Current Blackhawks Vice President and General Manager Stanley (Stan) Bowman joined the Blackhawks organization in 2001 as a special assistant to the General Manager for four season and served as the Director of Hockey Operations for the next two seasons. Bowman was then quickly promoted to Assistant General Manager, Hockey Operations and in July of 2009 to his current position.
In his time as General Manager he has been instrumental in making moves for the 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup teams. Since Game 6 on Monday night Bowman and other Hawks management have been traveling back-and-forth from Chicago and New York City preparing for the NHL Draft and celebrating with the city of Chicago.
This year Bowman goes into his biggest day of the year with five draft picks in the seven round NHL Draft. The draft is held at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. (2 p.m. CT; NBCSN, TSN, RDS). NBCSN will provide coverage from 2p-7p, after which NHL Network will provide coverage.
