Magee scores winner in 2-1 comeback over Crew

Mike Magee scored his sixth goal in as many games since joining the Fire last month by scoring the winner in the 54th minute in a 2-1 comeback victory against the Columbus Crew (5-6-5) on Saturday night.

The Fire (5-7-3) got a goal from former Crew midfielder Dilly Duka two minutes before and the Crew began the scoring with a goal from Federico Higuain.

Magee’s game winner came off an odd assist from Joel Lindpere’s left shoulder, which Magee sent pass Crew goaltender Andy Gruenebaum for his 10th goal of the season.

Duka’s Columbus homecoming did not start off the right foot when Higuain put the Crew up early.

Dominic Oduro took the ball from defender Austin Berry which led to the early penalty shot. The quick Oduro was clipped by Fire goalkeeper Sean Johnson when he went for a save. The penalty kick by Higuain found the net in the seventh minute to give him his fourth goal in five chances in all competitions.

Duka tied the match tapping in a volley from Lindpere for his first goal with Chicago since joining the squad in February for Oduro.

While Lindpere scored two assists on the night he also suffered an injury along with midfielder Logan Pause during the match.

Saturday’s result gives the Fire their first road victory this year and a 3-0-2 record in the past five matches. The Fire host Orlando City on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup.
