Tom Thibodeau will join the U.S.A. men’s basketball Olympic coaching staff.

Thibodeau will be joined by New Orleans Pelicans‘ head coach Monty Williams to assist head coach Mike Krzyzewski on the defensive end. Syracuse University coach Jim Boeheim will also return to round out the staff according an USA Basketball announcement Monday.

Thibodeau and Williams will fill the vacancies left by Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni and former Portland Trailblazers coach Nate McMillan. D’Antoni and McMillan served as Krzyzewski’s assistants for the past seven years.

Krzyzewski returns as the head coach after leading the US Olympic team to a repeat gold medal victory in the 2012 London games.

The 2012 US team did not have Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose due to his ACL injury but could see him become a member of the 2016 squad in Brazil. Williams may also have one of his players join the squad as Pelicans’ power forward/center Anthony Davis looks to return after winning a gold medal in the 2012 games.

The new staff will take part in the USA Basketball minicamp for young players in July, and their first competition together will be the 2014 World Cup of Basketball in Spain.
