Chicago native Mike Magee made his presence felt in his Chicago Fire debut in Major League Soccer action Sunday night. Magee had five shots and scored one in the 85th minute in a 2-0 victory over the reeling D.C. United at Toyota Park.
Magee’s goal came off an assist from Patrick Nyarko for his seventh goal on the season.
The 2-0 victory against D.C. United was Magee’s first for the Fire (3-7-2, 11 points) and the team’s first since April 20. It also served as United’s 11 straight loss in overall action.
The Fire started off quick in the ninth minute when a load of Fire activity in the box led to United’s midfielder Nick DeLeon deflecting Fire midfielder Jeff Larentowiczthe ball pass his own keeper, Joe Willis.
The Fire defense and midfield played a pivotal role in the victory as they only allowed one United shot on goal. While the Fire’s offense led by Magee and Chris Rolfe had nine shots off target and three on net.
Fire captain Logan Pause and defender Arne Friedrich missed the match due to quad and hamstring injuries.
Sunday’s match kicked off a four-game home stand as they will host the Portland Timbers next Saturday (7:30 p.m. CT, My 50 Chicago 107.5 FM).
