The Miami Heat, after an impressive showing in the first round against the Milwaukee Bucks, are sitting in Miami waiting for the outcome of the Chicago Bulls series against the Brooklyn Nets. After losing game 1 against the Nets, the Bulls have rebounded and won three straight games to take a 3-1 series lead. During their three game winning streak, the Bulls have impressed many within the NBA industry including one person who wasn’t impressed with the Bulls in February. That person is Reggie Rose, the brother of Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose.
Reggie Rose was highly critical of the Bulls’ organization in February for his perception of how the team is handling his brother’s injury. However, Rose has changed his tune since then.
When asked if it needs to be 100 percent to return, Rose replied: “His 100 percent might not be your 100 percent. It’s hard. But the Bulls organization has basically told him: We support you. When you are ready, we will welcome you with open arms.” -Reggie Rose, Chicago Tribune
In February, Rose suggested that the organization was rushing his brother back. However, perhaps after talking with Derrick, Reggie has corrected his vision of the Bulls’ handling of his brother. Reggie Rose also speculated in February that his brother may not return this season for the team, however, Rose now suggests that his brother could return in round 2 for the Bulls if the team makes it past the Nets in round 1.
Like coach Tom Thibodeau, Rose has not ruled out his brother returning for a potential series with the Heat.
“I think anything is possible,” he said.-Reggie Rose, Chicago Tribune
If there is anyone that is going to have inside information on Derrick Rose, it would be his brother Reggie Rose. Many have even suggested that Reggie Rose may be the unofficial spokesperson for Derrick Rose during his rehab. Meaning if Reggie Rose thinks it is possible that his brother could play in a potential round 2 series against the Heat, then I’m inclined to believe that Derrick Rose feels he could make his return for the Bulls in round 2.
Even if Rose does not return for the Bulls in round 2, Reggie Rose feels the Bulls can compete with the Heat.
“No matter what, if (Derrick) is playing or not, I still think it would be a competitive series (with the Heat) because of the way the Bulls defend,” he said. -Reggie Rose, Chicago Tribune
Reggie Rose certainly has more confidence in the Bulls’ players than he did in February, but his comment is not surprising. The Bulls were competitive against the Heat during the regular season. There is no question that the Bulls would compete with the Heat in a potential round 2 series. Nonetheless, the addition of Derrick Rose would be a factor that no one considered.
