Derrick Rose May Have Changed His Tune In Regards To His Return

Chicago Bulls’ point guard Derrick Rose generally has been pessimistic on the chances that he returns this season from the ACL injury he suffered last season against the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose, however, spoke with reporters on Thursday and indicated that he is close to returning.

“It could be tomorrow and I feel like I could play the next game,” said Rose, who tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during the playoffs last year. “Nobody knows but God.” ESPN Chicago

This marks the first time that Rose, or anyone from the Bulls’ organization, indicated that he is capable of playing in a game this season. This figures to be a good sign. Before speaking with reporters on Thursday, Rose indicated that he was physically ready to return but not mentally ready to return. The fact that Rose admits that he could play in the Bulls’ next game, which is Saturday at home against the Indiana Pacers, would seem to indicate that he is getting closer to being mentally ready to return.

One of the keys to determining when Rose is ready to return is when the point guard regained the explosive playing ability that ascended Rose to superstar status. Rose suggested that his explosive playing ability is beginning to take form once again.

“It’s coming,” he said. “I’m not panicking or anything. If anything, I think I’m going to be a better player.

“I’m just taking my time. I’m just being patient, doing all the right things and really eating right and getting rest.” ESPN Chicago

There have been many people that have followed Rose’s rehab to suggest that the point guard is scared about returning from his ACL surgery. That is not the case. Rose does not want to be faced with the same issues that Minnesota Timberwolves’ point guard Ricky Rubio had when he returned from his ACL injury earlier this season. Rose does not want to be faced with limitations and restrictions when he returns from his ACL injury. When Rose returns, he wants to be the same player that was the youngest play ever to win the NBA MVP award. That does not make Rose scared. That makes Rose the player is beloved by the entire city of Chicago.
