The Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions on Sunday. The Bears need to defeat the Lions on Sunday in order for the team to have any chance at making the playoffs. In addition to the Bears defeating the Lions, the team also needs for the Green Bay Packers to defeat the Minnesota Vikings. Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith admitted that he would be a big Packers’ fan this week. There are plenty of reasons for Smith to be rooting for the Packers this week. Not only is a Packers’ victory necessary in order for the Bears to have an opportunity at the playoffs, but a Bears’ victory against the Lions may be what is required for Smith to retain his job.
Because of that reason, something fascinating has occurred. When you tune into your favorite Sports’ radio show or refresh your timeline on twitter, there are not Bears’ fans rallying in support of the Bears’ efforts to make the playoffs. Rather, there are Bears’ fans rallying in support of the notion that the Bears will fire Smith if the team does not make the playoffs. In order for that to happen, the Bears would have to lose against the Lions. Even though the Bears can still miss the playoffs if they win and the Vikings win, many Bears fans appear to be hoping that the Lions provide the knockout punch to Smith’s career as head coach of the Chicago Bears.
For that reason, there is a new poll question. That poll question is “Are you rooting against the Bears?” Even though I think the Bears need to part ways with Smith, I’m not against the Bears’ effort to make the playoffs.
What is take on the matter?
